This is where SC appears to be standing with 2017 recruits:
Commits:
Jordan Usher (CF, Top 100 in Rivals & ESPN)
Victor Uyaelunmo (C, consensus Top 200 player): taking official visit to SC this weekend
Prospects:
O'Shae Brissett (CF. consensus Top 150 player): has taken official visit; the commitment of Uyaelunmo may end our recruitment of Brissett; update: we are in Brissett's final four
Jay Jay Chandler (PG, consensus Top 125 player): SC in Final Five; Chandler is close with Billy Preston; I wouldn't be surprised if SC is the dark horse here
Trevon Duval (CG, consensus Top 5 player): another buddy of Preston, who has trained with Thornton's uncle; SC made his original Final Nine, but now it's unclear if Duval will even play in college
Brandon Huffman (C, consensus Top 200 player): the commitment of Uyaelunmo may end our recruitment of Huffman
Abu Kigab (W, consensus Top 150 player): SC supposedly in top 5; UPDATE: committed to Oregon
Kimani Lawerence (consensus Top 60 player): SC in Final Five; ASU now considered heavy favorite; UPDATE: committed to ASU
Brandon McCoy (PF, consensus Top 10 player): SC considered one of three favorites
David Nickelberry (W, consensus Top 200 player): committed to Memphis
Jordan Nwora (CF, consensus Top 110 player): SC was in his top 5; UPDATE: committed to Louisville
Chuck O'Bannon, Jr. (W, consensus Top 50 player): SC in Final Four, he visited SC the weekend of October 8
De'Vondre Perry (W, consensus Top 250 player): SC was in his Final Five, but didn't make his final 3
Billy Preston (CF, consensus Top 15 player): SC in Final Five and is considered the favorite by some of the experts; UPDATE: visited SC over October 29 weekend
Cody Riley (CF, consensus Top 40 player): looks like a UCLA/SC battle, with UCLA as the long time favorite; UPDATE: committed to UCLA
Devontae Shuler (CG, consensus Top 100 player): SC in top 5; update: Shuler commits to Ole Miss
Shamiel Stevenson (W, consensus Top 250 player): SC in top 4, unclear how seriously SC is recruiting him after Usher committed
Lance Thomas (PF, consensus Top 110 player): SC in Final Four, will announce Nov. 1, hard to imagine SC is in the running; UPDATE: took an official visit to SC and then promptly committed to Louisville
Ethan Thompson (CG, consensus Top 50 player): SC was in top 4; Thompson committed to Oregon St.
Jordan Tucker (W, consensus Top 50 player): SC in Final Eight; while SC is considered long shot, Tucker is waiting until spring to sign (he may be holding out for a Duke offer)
PG = point guard
CG = combo guard
SG = shooting guard
W = wing
CF = combo forward
PF = power forward
C = center
Big Picture:
With Usher and Uyaelunmo in the fold, it appears that SC would like finish up the fall class with Billy Preston (if we can get him) and one back court player -- either Chandler, Shuler or O'Bannon if we can get one; obviously, we'd happily take Duval if he wanted to come.
That would make 4 recruits, and then leave the issue of Brandon McCoy open. We'd obviously take McCoy in a heartbeat. But, if we can't get him, there probably would not be a replacement.

This was a good thread on the other board. I wish someone would post it here.
Overall, I've been happy with the recruiting for 2016 and 2017. We have a good shot for players USC couldn't get a sit down with a few years back. I also want to reiterate that USC is competitive with recruits that have previously been recruited by traditional basketball schools like Kansas, Louisville, UCLA, etc. I think our future is bright as long as we keep it going and build momentum. We also need to continue building a vibrant fan base. In LA, the #2 media market in the United States, USC has a great opportunity and there is plenty of room for growth given the large size of the market.
My two cents.

Great points, jt4sc!
As long as USC can continue it's momentum from last season (which we all expect), then we will see the upward trend continue to flow.
FYI looks like Kimani Lawrence is headed to Pitt for his official visit this weekend (10/8). Kid is well traveled. Like I said in a previous thread on the other board, look for an announcement next month.

Thanks Chase. Do we know anything around timing? When will most of these guys commit? It seems like basketball recruits don't de-commit the way football recruits do.

Fade, We are in the middle of commitment season right now. It generally takes place between August and November, while kids take official visits just before their senior high school seasons begin, and just before the fall signing period, which is in mid November. SC has had two kids commit in the last 6 weeks or so. Unless these targets wait until the spring (which they may), they should be committing over the next month or so.

UPDATE: With people commiting evertday, who do you think we end up with? Kimani seems a AZ ST lock, Chandler seems a Western Kentucky lock, Preston seems more unlikely everyday, & I just dont see the O'Bannon family allowing Chuckie O to commit here & everyone else seems like a long long shot. Who do we seem to get for finish our class?

As additional updates to the list above, it looks like Huffman is off the board committing to UNC and Kigab is now down to Oregon and Illinois. List is starting to dwindle and recruiting winds don't appear to be blowing USC's way over past couple weeks. Doesn't seem ideal that Lawrence visited during weekdays and his recent comments towards USC seem tempered in comparison to ASU.
At the end of the day, if the staff can land Preston along with the current commits that should be a top 25 class and I would consider it a success. Landing Preston + another guy on the list above would make this class a home run. There will certainly be at least one player not even on the radar currently who will commit to USC or come very close as the coaching carousel spins during / after season.

So, for those early period signees, it's really not about performance this season. On the other hand, kids can wait until the spring to sign. Those kids will have the benefit of teams' performances this upcoming season.

Preston took an official visit to Syracuse this weekend. He is scheduled to take one to Indiana next. It seems some of the USC momentum with him has faded.
Right now USC's class is solid as was the 2016 class, but it is lacking the top talent that we need to move beyond the middle of the PAC12.

I think I'm confused, it seems like there's an attitude that our changes with Billy Preston are going downhill, but I'm not sure why we think that. This is a kid who has all along said that he's going to take his official visits, and he's never publicly said "USC is my clear leader and where I'm going." The thoughts on him being an SC lean were always based on what insiders/folks close to him were hearing. And now all he's doing is taking trips, as he said he was going to, and continuing to not say he has a clear leader. Has anything changed behind the scenes? Because on the surface of it all, things look exactly as they always have.

A very, very side note. NBA Draft Express has updated their 2017 draft rankings ... and Bennie and Chimezie aren't on them. Let's see how long that lasts.

Hopefully, SC can keep these kids around for at least 3 years. Being year 2 for Bennie and Chimezie and their expected improvement during this year, their draft status should/will improve but I'd rather they stay anyway. SC's program can get to the next level by keeping a core group around for 3 years and providing leadership for/to the next group.

Another one off the board. Jordan Nwora to Louisville. Seems our prospects are getting taken off the board everyday
